This tab is used in a data mapping tool or software system that allows you to map fields from a source data layout to a destination layout. This is often used when integrating or transforming data, and there are several key elements described:
-
Source Field: This is a list of fields from the original data layout (such as a file or database). The fields appear in the order they are defined in the “Source Layout” tab.
-
Original Field: This column represents the corresponding fields or data from the incoming source that will be mapped to the destination system. The field names or a numeric sequence may be used for mapping, depending on the loading method.
Loading Methods
- Load File: In this method, the original field mapping is typically represented by numbers. The system allows you to automatically populate the “Original Field” column with a default numeric sequence. This is useful for files with a predefined structure.
- Populate Default Configuration: This button auto-fills the “Original Field” column with a sequence of numbers.
- Manual Entry: You can enter the numbers manually by double-clicking on each field.
- Load Table: In this method, the system uses table column names instead of numbers. You use the lookup button to select the corresponding field name from a table for each source field.
- Skipping Fields: If a field in the source layout does not need to be loaded, you can leave the “Original Field” column blank.
This setup helps ensure that the data is mapped correctly between the source and destination layouts, even if the structures are not identical.
